Position SummaryThe primary function of this position is to staff the 24/7/365 operation of the Office of School Safety (OSS) Resource Center. The duties include evaluating and assessing all incoming school threats and information requests; communicating via telephone, computer, e-mail, and web-application; provision of technical assistance on threat evaluation and the Records Management Systems; dissemination of resources, materials, training, and/or emergency assistance depending on the context. The scope and complexity of work includes a wide range of requests as well as extreme diversity in stakeholder groups. This position will exercise independent judgment and decision-making based on training, knowledge, experience, and written protocols. The OSS Resource Center is a statewide resource for schools, law enforcement agencies and communities that provides a four-pronged approach to school safety; threat assessment consultation, threat reporting, regional critical incident response and best-practice guidance.
Salary InformationThis classification is in pay schedule 07, pay range 04. Pay for this position will be between $24.00 and $26.00/hr. Pay for current or former state employees will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. This position will be required to work 2 nd or 3 rd shift and rotating weekends, with the eligibility for night and weekend pay differentials. There may at times be opportunities to work overtime, with eligibility for additional compensation. All pay will follow the provisions found in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan and in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Job DetailsThis position is headquartered at the Risser Justice Center located at 17 West Main Street in Madison. This position is eligible to work 100% remotely from within the State of Wisconsin. High speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Travel to the headquarters is not eligible for travel reimbursement. The Department of Justice does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. A background check, including fingerprints, will be completed on applicants prior to selection.
QualificationsMinimally qualified candidates must have training, education, or work experience in the following areas:
- Using computers and information technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, database systems, e-mail, and the internet
- Using effective oral and written communication to provide an explanation, justification, or discussion of a variety of issues requiring a logical presentation of appropriate facts, information, or analysis.
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships by developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintaining them over time.
- Ability to work with data and information of serious and sensitive nature while taking measures to maintain confidentiality.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, a well-qualified applicant will also have training, education, and/or experience in:
- General knowledge of operating procedures of K-12 schools in Wisconsin and/or general knowledge of law enforcement operating procedures
- General knowledge of digital and/or general threat assessments gained through education, training, and/or prior experience
- Experience triaging external customer or client needs or complaints based on importance.
