Retirement Plan Services Consultant

Summary:

The Retirement Plan Services Consultant is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities for retirement services while maintaining and growing an existing client base. This role involves building strong relationships with decision-makers, presenting tailored strategies, and ensuring clients' ongoing needs are met through exceptional service.

The Consultant collaborates with internal service teams to provide outstanding customer support, monitor client plans, and offer solutions to enhance client satisfaction and retention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Client Relationship Management:

  • Build and manage productive, long-term relationships with clients through proactive communication and exceptional customer service.
  • Act as the primary contact for client inquiries, administrative issues, and plan needs.
  • Conduct annual plan reviews, participant education meetings, and provide ongoing plan support.

New Business Development:

  • Develop leads through cold calling, networking, and referrals.
  • Drive new business growth by advancing prospects through the sales pipeline and achieving/exceeding annual sales goals.
  • Present plan options and investment strategies to decision-makers and stakeholders.

Consulting and Advisory Services:

  • Advise clients on plan changes, amendments, and investment options.
  • Monitor industry trends and communicate updates to clients.
  • Assist participants with account-related questions and investment education.

Compliance and Administration:

  • Work with Plan Administration Specialists to explain testing requirements and recommend strategies to pass compliance tests.
  • Stay informed about retirement laws, IRS regulations, and best practices.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Nitro/Adobe, SalesForce, and proprietary software/databases.
  • Problem-Solving: Critical thinker with sound judgment, able to resolve time-sensitive client issues and identify process improvements.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Some college required; Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Business, Economics, or Finance preferred.
  • 1–2 years of retirement-related experience required; 2–5 years of industry experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sales techniques, retirement laws, and IRS regulations preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications: Securities, Series 65, Insurance – Life & Health, and Variable.

Other Requirements:

  • Full engagement with the team and organization.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to move about the office and attend client visits.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds regularly.
  • Visual acuity for computer work and written materials.
  • Hearing ability for in-person and phone conversations.
  • Access to highly confidential personnel and financial data.

Compensation:

  • 400k OTE
