Job SummaryMills James is seeking a skilled Rigging Specialist to oversee and execute rigging activities at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. This role is responsible for ensuring all rigging operations meet safety, quality, and industry standards while complying with Mills James guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Rigging Specialist will work closely with the Director of Rigging, who serves as the primary contact for all rigging work, and will collaborate with the Director of Operations and Sales Manager to provide CAD venue diagrams to prospective clients. This position also involves direct client support, hands-on rigging, and team supervision during events.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Production and Project ManagementCoordinate and schedule rigging labor and high-lift equipment for events requiring rigging services.Specify and manage rigging equipment, setup labor, and power requirements.Participate in major production planning meetings to ensure safety and efficiency.Meet with the Director of Rigging to review project plans, rigging plots, SOPs, and scheduling needs.Safety and Event ExecutionOversee all rigging labor efforts and ensure overhead safety during events, including the inspection of ground-supported structures and aerial performance systems.Manage rigging operations for conventions, trade shows, and exhibitions, including the installation of banners, signage, and production equipment.Conduct visual inspections of all hardware in use, including motors, personnel lifts, and power systems.Remain on-site until all motors have been raised to trim, final safety checks are completed, and the client confirms rigging completion.Maintain all rigging equipment and conduct routine inspections to ensure all components meet safety standards.Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and ANSI standards for Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), rigging and hoist systems, and power distribution.Obtain and maintain necessary certifications related to rigging and safety compliance.
