Our motto describes our community - virtute et numine  by Grit & Grace.General SummaryWestminster School has an exciting opportunity for a Rink Technician on its Simsbury, CT campus. The Rink Technician is responsible for maintaining Westminster School's Jackson Ice Rink and associated machinery and equipment. The Rink Technician will also assist the Grounds Team with maintaining our campus grounds, including snow removal, as needed. Flexibility to work nights and weekends is required for this role. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for annual open and close of rink and all related duties.Safely perform quality ice resurfacing for the rink, working around scheduled events accordingly.Edge ice approximately twice each week.Safely maintain Olympia ice resurfacer, including changing propane tank when empty, washing and waxing machine, cleaning tires, changing ice shaving blade, etc.Responsible for routinely monitoring ice edger and ice-making equipment (compressors, chiller system, dehumidification system, condenser system, etc.). Record brine and floor temperatures, check oil and water levels, and replace water filter daily.Maintain skate sharpening machine, including cleaning the filter monthly and replacing wheels and diamonds as needed. Maintain inventory accordingly.Sharpen skates, cut hockey sticks, and repair hockey nets as needed.Perform routine custodial duties for the rink.Secure and lock up rink after events.Responsible for various groundskeeping duties including mowing, trimming, raking, planting, pruning, and snow removal as assigned.Job QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.1-3 years of ice rink maintenance experience strongly preferred, but training opportunities available.Ability to operate heavy machinery.Basic mechanical knowledge required; refrigeration preferred.Excellent organizational and time management skills.Ability to keep accurate records.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Must be positive and get along with visitors, vendors, students, and colleagues.Valid Driver's License required.To ApplyThis is a non-exempt (hourly) position that offers a competitive salary.
