The RN Dialysis nurse is responsible for providing dialysistreatment to patients suffering from kidney failure to include pre and postdialysis care while maintaining a safe environment, providing compassionatecare and per facility / physician orders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Ensures compassionate, professional delivery of alldialysis-related nursing services in a clinical setting
- Provides the highest level of care to patients and ensuretheir safety, comfort and well-being
- Understands the basic and advanced principles of watertreatment
- Prepares patients for dialysis treatment and continuallymonitors patients during the treatment
- Properly sets up the dialysis machine in preparation for use
- Prepares dialysate according to formulas and primes withsaline or heparinized solution
- Responsible for teaching patients and their families abouthealthcare practices for safety at home
- Accurately explains the dialysis procedure and the operationof the dialysis machine to new patients and answers any questions related todialysis and health maintenance
- Calculates fluid removal or replacement to be achievedduring the dialysis procedure
- Uses proper techniques to access the dialysis site andcorrectly connects patient to dialysis machine
- Begins procedure and monitors the dialysis site during thetreatment
- Accurately collects, documents, and reports all patient data(i.e. vital signs, weights)
- Observes and monitors patient(s) during the procedure andreports any changes or adverse reactions in patient's condition to the ChargesRegistered Nurse on duty
- Provides skilled intervention to patients as applicable forany signs and symptoms of adverse reaction and/or change in patient's condition
- Documents all patient care procedures performed during thedialysis treatment
- Correctly follows all policies and procedures in testing themachine pre-treatment
- Correctly follows all policies and procedures to discontinuetreatment and disconnect the patient from the dialysis machine
- Responsible for cleaning and quality control of the dialysisequipment
- Reports any machine problems or malfunctions to the facilityor charge registered nurse, as required by policy
- May participate in the development of patient care plans;depending upon the facility or work assignment.
- Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements: - Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which thenurse practices
- Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
- Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
- Computer proficiency required
- Must be at least 18 years of age
