Akron General's Rapid Observation Unit is part of the Emergency Department (ED) and provides treatment and evaluation to patients whiledeterminingif the patient needs to be admitted to the hospital.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00pm– 7:30am.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care.
Assessing, planning,implementingand evaluating care for a given patient population.
Assessments: complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
Planning: develop and update goals, involve patients and families in developing plans of care, coordinating the interdisciplinary plan of care and serve as a patient advocate.
Implementation: provide nursing care, administer treatments and medication, and document.
Evaluation:participatein ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes, contribute to the improvement ofcareandparticipatein the quality improvement process.
Leadership/professional development: delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person/role model/mentor, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications,maintainapplicable certification/licensureand obtain any required certifications specific to the unit.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).
