Work Shift: Varies (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Salary Range: $32.00 - $48.00Sign On BONUS available for eligible applicants Union Position: No Department Details The RN position in the OR with our Surgery Department is full time with various day shifts available 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts available. Most shifts start at 6:30am. The main shift that the surgical nurse would be working is 6:30am - 3:00pm. In a typical 4 week schedule, the nurse would work 3-4 shifts that start later than the 6:30am start (including shifts that begin at 9:00am, 10:30am, & 12:30pm) and 1-2 overnight call shifts. This RN position would be scheduled to work every 6th weekend (Saturday & Sunday) which include a rotation of working days, nights, & on call. 1 - 2 holidays per year which could be working days, nights, or on call. The department has straight night shifts during the week & weekend, however, typical day staff cover nights (part of the weekend rotation) when straight night staff positions are open and/or on PTO. Staff on call have a 20 minute response time & call rooms provided as needed. The Operating Room (OR) has a total of 35 operating suites, with three suites in the Sanford Heart Hospital, one of which is a hybrid suite. All of our ORs include state-of-the-art equipment. Outpatient and inpatient procedures are performed for an annual total of approximately 24,000 procedures. Nurse to patient ratio is always one to one. The nurse is usually assigned to a specific OR at the start of their shift and complete the cases scheduled in that OR. The operating room performs elective & scheduled surgeries, along with urgent and emergent surgeries. We have ten specialized surgery teams: including orthopedic inpatient; orthopedic outpatient; cardiovascular; urology; OB/GYN; ear, nose and throat; ophthalmology; general and robotic; pediatrics; and neurosurgery and plastic surgery. The skills of these ten specialized surgery teams provide quality care to patients, while giving team members the opportunity to develop and utilize their abilities. Nurses in the OR start as a circulator nurse, which includes: maintain a sterile field/environment, verify surgical consent, verify correct supplies, & instruments, assist the CRNA & Anesthesiologist in induction and emergence, position the patient safely, and understand the different surgical procedures & their steps to be able to anticipate the necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment. If desired, after gaining experience as an OR circulator nurse, may have the option to learn the scrub nurse role. On the job training to become a scrub nurse will be provided. Scrub nurses must learn instrument names, sets, function, and how to pass instruments safely and efficiently. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited nursing program required, including, but not limited to, American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). Bachelor's Degree in nursing preferred. Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state.
