$35,432.00 - $40,491.36 Annually $1,362.77 - $1,557.36 Bi-weekly

Position Summary

This is a position established as Safety and Health Specialist. The primary purpose of this position is to perform work interpreting, explaining, and enforcing departmental safety program policies, state laws, and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) regulations.

The Work You Will Do

Conduct regular scheduled inspections of all hood systems, fire extinguishers and fire protection systems center wide. This is to be done monthly, quarterly, and annually. Perform a full preventative maintenance program on all fire protection systems, fire extinguishers, fire and safety related equipment and repair work for safety in both staff and work areas reporting violations of safety regulations.

Conduct regular scheduled inspections of all residential and support areas, food service and the warehouse for health and sanitation violations, maintain all files related to safety and health violations. Track and coordinate all completed action to correct all deficiencies.

Monitor all storage and mechanical rooms and workshops for clean and safe conditions. Report all violations to the supervisor.

Coordinate safety procedures and inspect job sites and grounds keeping, housekeeping to ensure that personnel are equipped with and are properly utilizing safety devices. Report all violations to the supervisor.

Conduct fire drills on all shifts, both work and living areas, keep records and logs in compliance with State Fire Marshall's Office.

Perform other related duties as specified by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

* High school diploma

* Preferred: Certifications/experience in applying in Health Codes, NFPA, Life Safety Codes, Certified Food Handler, etc.

* Preferred: Experience working with individuals with disabilities

* Preferred: Experience conducting fire safety drills

* Willingness to work occasional nights/weekends (1-2 nights per month) to complete drills

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

* Knowledge of basic safety principles and practices.

* Knowledge of the methods of data collection.

* Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective communication

* Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data relating to occupational safety and health standards.

* Ability to conduct investigations, inspections, and studies in the area of occupational safety and health and enforce applicable regulations.

* Ability to train others.

* Ability to conduct oral presentations.

* Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to occupational safety and health standards.

* Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.

* Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

* Ability to communicate effectively.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

As a condition of employment, a person appointed to a position in the State Personnel System is required to participate in the Direct Deposit Program. Background Screening Requirement

It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
