The bus safety assistant helps to provide safe transportation to ourr exceptional children populationReports to Lead Driver/Transportation CoordinatorQualifications:* High school diploma or equivalent* Obtain first aid/CPR certification.* Permanent full time employment requires you obtain and maintain a Class B CDL with a P & S endorsement within 12 monthsEssential Functions:* Ensure that all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines.* Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.* React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.* Appropriately operate all equipment as required.* Comply with all Pitt County Schools Board of Education policies, rules and regulations.Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:* Physical ability to evacuate the school bus in the case of an emergency.* Requires prolonged sitting or standing.* Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.* Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning and reaching.* Requires climbing and balancing.* Must be able to provide care for student personal care needs (runny nose, drooling mouth)* Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.* Extensive bus travel required.* Must be able to work in noisy, crowded, stressful environments.* Must be able to work in and around dust, fumes and odors.General Responsibilities:1. Immediately report accidents, assaults, destruction of property, and abusive behavior to the transportation supervisor.2. Ensure that students wait, board and depart buses in a safe and orderly fashion.3. Work with drivers and transportation supervisor in resolving problems with students.4. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.5. Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.6. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director or Designee which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
