Reports to: Vice President of Operations

Type: Full-Time, Executive-Level

Position Overview

The Director of Safety will lead the development, implementation, and management of comprehensive safety programs across large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects. This individual will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, foster a strong safety culture, and drive innovation in safety practices across diverse project portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute company-wide safety strategies aligned with operational goals.
  • Lead safety initiatives across multiple large-scale projects, including highways, bridges, and rail systems.
  • Serve as a key advisor to executive leadership on safety matters and trends.
  • Program Development and Management:
  • Design and implement safety programs tailored to heavy civil and infrastructure construction.
  • Establish policies and procedures that meet or exceed OSHA, DOT, and other regulatory standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, integrating best practices and new technologies.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance across all projects.
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Oversee risk assessments and hazard analysis for all phases of construction projects.

Qualifications

  • Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • CSP, CHST, or similar certification is highly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience in safety management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Extensive experience in large-scale transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction practices and challenges.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of OSHA, DOT, and other relevant regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence and drive change across a large, diverse workforce.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and data analysis tools.
