SummaryAshton Lewis Lumber is seeking a Safety Manager. This position will work with and through Management at our sawmill to ensure compliance with all Federal and State(s) safety and health regulations, provide safety support for all locations through the development, coordination, and training of all safety programs and objectives, and work with other departments, especially the Process Improvement team, to educate and enforce a proactive stance on Safety Program for the Company. This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and a full benefits package.Essential Duties:
  • Develops, plans, and implements written safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. (I.e.-OSHA)
  • Develops, educates, communicates, monitors, and tracks Company safety goals quarterly and annually.
  • Identifies Company safety training needs and develops, educates, and coordinates safety training programs Company-wide and site-specific when needed.
  • Maintains all safety files and record keeping, including workers' compensation, and provides mandated reporting to OSHA. (Accident reports, forms 301, 300 log, and 300A)
  • Schedules, coordinates, and assist in conducting Company safety audits/inspections at each location quarterly. Responsible for ensuring corrective action is taken on audit/inspection findings.
  • Works with Plant Managers, Vendors, and Independent Contractors to install equipment and new process, assess any potential hazards, and coordinate the abatement of those hazards before equipment and process is implemented, including the training of affected employees.
  • Works with Managers upon their request to assist with all requirements necessary to make an application to OSHA's SHARP program and to maintain certification.
  • Coordinates and conducts/assigns safety topics and presents for monthly Safety Education Committee (SEC) conference calls.
  • Coordinates and assist in conducting accident investigations, coordinate the documentation of any hazard abatement/refresher training, and coordinates the education of all affected employees Company-wide. Report all information of injury (s) and illness to state and federal agencies as mandated. (This includes Near-miss reporting and Root Cause Analysis)
  • Reports, advises, and consults with Human Resources Manager as necessary to address and resolve any Safety-Related issues.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or at least two (2) years of relevant work experience is preferred.
