As a Safety Specialist with Penn Color, you will be a key member of our safety team, dedicated to fostering a safe and compliant work environment across all operations. This role requires a proactive and analytical approach to safety management, focusing on risk identification, assessment, and mitigation. You will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safety programs that align with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
In addition to maintaining accurate safety metrics and reporting, you will conduct thorough risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify potential hazards associated with various tasks and equipment. By collaborating with management and employees, you will recommend effective strategies to enhance workplace safety, including ergonomics and engineering controls.
You will bring a strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations and demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement in safety practices. This role also requires effective communication and training skills to engage employees at all levels in safety initiatives. A willingness to work off-shift occasionally to support safety oversight across all operations is essential.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Metrics Management: Maintain and analyze safety metrics, providing accurate reports to onsite management and corporate reporting systems to track safety performance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Support management in ensuring compliance with corporate safety programs, as well as federal and state regulations governing workplace safety in chemical manufacturing.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for various processes, Pre-Safety Startup Reviews (PSSRs) for new processes and equipment, and PPE assessments.
- Risk Mitigation: Recommend and implement effective risk mitigation measures, including ergonomic solutions and engineering controls.
- Safety Procedures Enforcement: Ensure compliance with safety procedures, including the proper use of fire prevention equipment, protective clothing, devices, and the availability of first aid supplies.
- Incident Investigation: Assist in the investigation of workplace injuries and near misses, documenting findings and contributing to root cause analysis.
- Corrective Action Implementation: Recommend corrective actions based on incident investigations and follow up on their implementation to prevent recurrence.
- Audits and Inspections: Perform regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with safety regulations and company procedures, identifying areas for improvement.
- Safety Committee Support: Assist in preparing for safety committee meetings, including maintaining records and minutes to ensure effective communication and follow-up.
- Training and Development: Provide safety training to employees and contractors to ensure awareness of company safety practices, procedures and expectations.
- Workers' Compensation Support: Assist in tracking, recording, and supporting Workers' Compensation cases, ensuring accurate documentation and timely reporting.
- Safety Initiatives: Develop and promote safety initiatives aimed at driving a stronger safety culture throughout the organization, fostering employee engagement and accountability.
- Other Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support company objectives.
BASIC REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's of Science degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably in a manufacturing or chemical environment.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Proven experience in conducting risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with employees at all levels.
- Proficient in data analysis and reporting, with strong attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in emergency response including certifications in EMS or First Aid, CPR/AED, adn BBP
- OSHA 10/30 Certification
- Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene practices and ergonomics.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure.
- Professional Safety Certification (e.g. ASP, GSP)
- Experience leading and managing a team to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and to conduct job hazard and job safety analyses
- Knowledge of NFPA standards/code
- Knowledge of ANSI and other regulatory safety standards
