Safety SupervisorSummary:The Safety Supervisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment in the meat processing facility - Indiana Packers Corp (IPC). This role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting safety training, ensuring compliance with federal and state safety regulations, and continuously working to improve the overall safety culture within the organization.Responsibilities:Safety Program Development and Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure compliance.
- Lead and participate in the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near-misses; develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Training and Education:
- Develop and conduct safety training programs for new hires and ongoing employee education.
- Ensure all employees are aware of safety policies and procedures and are trained in emergency response protocols.
- Maintain records of safety training and certifications.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay current with OSHA and other relevant safety regulations; ensure the facility remains in compliance with all local, state, and federal safety laws.
- Prepare and submit required safety reports and documentation.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies during inspections and audits.
Risk Assessment and Management:
- Perform risk assessments and job hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and controls.
- Monitor the effectiveness of safety programs and recommend improvements.
Emergency Response:
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans, including fire drills, evacuation plans, and first aid procedures.
- Coordinate and lead emergency response drills and training sessions.
Safety Culture Promotion:
- Foster a culture of safety through regular communication, engagement, and leadership.
- Serve as a role model for safe behavior and practices.
- Encourage employee participation in safety programs and committees.
Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
- Analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Report safety performance metrics to senior management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related field OR minimum of 4+ years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the meat processing, food manufacturing or heavy industrial industry.
- Able to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or similar certifications.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
- Ability to lead and influence others without direct authority.
Working Conditions:
- The role requires working in a meat processing environment, which may involve exposure to cold temperatures, noise, and potentially hazardous equipment.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving materials as needed.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to meet the demands of the facility.
