Distinguishing Features of the ClassSanitary Chemist #88647010 (Open Competitive)Final Filing Date: 11/16/2024Exam Date: 12/07/2024Under the general direction of the Associate Sanitary Chemist performs chemical and biological testing of a complex nature on samples of water and waste. This position differs from the Assistant Sanitary Chemist in that the testing of discharges is more complex in nature rather than routine or non routine. Incumbents exercise considerable leeway in the chemical and biological testing of discharges and in carrying out details of each assignment. Supervision is exercised over personnel performing laboratory work in the Sewage Treatment Plant. Examples of work (Illustration Only) Supervises and participates in chemical and bacteriological testing of water and waste of a routine nature;Performs complex chemical analyses on samples of wastewater and sludge including priority pollutant analysis;Takes part in special research and investigational studies on sewage treatment operations, procedures and laboratory methods;Compiles test results and laboratory data for use in the formation of plant operation policy;Performs testing on materials received;Assists in observation of special plant problems and preparation of tabulations, graphs and records;Prepares laboratory data for periodic reports;Conducts sampling of waters or wastes as required;Performs related duties as required.
