Reports to: Middle School Head Cook / Food Service Director This position will receive an additional hour for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program on days that the product is served. QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Food Worker Card from the County Health Department
  • Must have the ability to relate well with other food service workers and other school personnel
  • Can demonstrate the ability to operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment
  • Have the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds
  • Can demonstrate the ability to do basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, and division)
  • Be able to order product and supplies to meet attendance factors and production requirements
  • Can demonstrate the ability to change menus for proportioned quantities
  • Can demonstrate the ability to complete production records and maintain accurate meal counts efficiently
  • Can demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and written
  • Must have good organizational and clerical abilities; this should include but are not limited to computer skills, inventory experience and time management
  • Must have the ability to work cooperatively and independently
  • Possess a valid Washington State driver's license
  • Provide proof of citizenship (driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, passport, etc.)
  • First Aid and CPR certification required
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES This position could include but is not be limited to the following duties
  • Supervise and provide on-going training to all assistant cooks and server/helpers on site.
  • Monitor work assignments, hours worked and behavior of staff
  • Be versed in all OSPI food service requirements for the Child Nutrition Program
  • Demonstrate positive leadership ability
  • Be responsible for all aspects of breakfast in the classroom preparation; this includes warming, prepping, assembling and accurate reconciliation
  • Must be able to read standardized recipes and product specifications
  • Relocate daily (up to 1 hour) to the Middle School Central Kitchen where you will prep items needed for the menu at the satellite kitchen, this will be done with the help of the HMS staff.
  • Serve transported lunches from the Middle School Kitchen where they were prepped and cooked
  • Serve these prepared meals using the correct portioning meeting the USDA/OSPI standards and minimum requirements
  • Ensure that food being served to students is at the correct temperature
  • Properly account for all served meals, as specified in the regulations for the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program
  • Order and receive food as needed from Google Drive Order Forms that have been shared
  • Follow proper sanitation, safety and temperature control procedures in accordance with the County Health Department standards.
  • Operate standard cooking equipment
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and reporting all problems to appropriate department in a timely manner
  • Keep refrigerators, freezers, milk coolers and storerooms clean and neat
  • All food and supply items are to be stored properly in their respective areas
  • Complete the required minimum annual training requirements for school nutrition employees (Classes taken MUST pertain to your position)
  • Complete paperwork as required by Food Services Office: This includes but not limited to meal records, inventories, ALL invoices, APPROVED additional time sheets and the required government production records
  • Other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Must have regular attendance
  • Must demonstrate good judgment and common sense
  • Must demonstrate courtesy and tact when dealing with students, staff, and patrons
  • Must be capable of standing/walking without restrictions
  • Must have the ability to reach, grasp, handle and grip without difficulty on a continuous basis
  • Frequent pushing and pulling, depending on work assignment
  • Possess the ability to train and provide training to substitutes in performing their assigned tasks and in the safe and efficient use of food service equipment
  • Responsible for storage and security of food and supplies in the kitchen
  • Supervise and perform major cleaning of food service equipment at regularly scheduled intervals
  • Notify appropriate authority immediately in the event of any accident occurring on the cafeteria premises
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Cooks are exposed to some outside climatic conditions during the winter and summer months. Noise level is considered moderate to high when working in facilities where children and cooking equipment are present. The above conditions are not to a degree or length of time to cause marked discomfort or possible bodily injury to the employee. SALARY: $20.27 - $24.99/hr BENEFITS: State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 9 paid holidays, 10 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
