Position Summary

Join the Joan and Art Barron Veterans Center as a School Certifying Official & Advisor and support our military and veteran students. Reporting to the MVP Director, you'll manage education benefits, provide student advising, and ensure VA compliance. This role offers a balance of independent work and collaborative support to benefit both the university and our military-affiliated students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Certification Process: Guide military-affiliated students through the process of receiving federal and state VA education benefits.
  • Liaison Role: Act as the primary point of contact for VA-related inquiries, engaging with students, the general public, and the campus community through various channels, including office walk-ins, emails, and phone calls.
  • Issue Resolution: Assist in resolving payment and overpayment issues by communicating with the VA Regional Processing Office in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Or

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of program operations, organizational management, research methods, and student behavior principles.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, analyze data, advise students, and collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to implement program improvements.
  • Experience with public speaking with small and large audiences.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities related to state / federal VA education benefit programs.
  • Knowledge of university regulations, policies, and procedures, with an understanding of the broader higher education environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the U.S. military, including active duty, reserve, or National Guard service within any branch of the Department of Defense or Department of Homeland Security preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a role involving the administration of education benefits or certification processes preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,083 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083 - $7,228 per month.
