Job Description:

The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves performing routine cleaning and maintenance tasks, ensuring that school facilities are well-kept, and supporting the overall functionality of the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Maintenance:

Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.

Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring adequate supplies of soap and paper products.

Dust and wipe down surfaces, including furniture, windowsills, and fixtures.

Empty trash receptacles and dispose of waste appropriately.

Facility Support:

Set up and break down spaces for school events, meetings, and activities.

Assist in minor maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs and performing basic repairs.

Monitor and report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the administration.

Safety and Compliance:

Follow health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures regarding cleanliness and maintenance.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with school staff to support the needs of the facility and enhance the learning environment.

Communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers regarding cleaning schedules and priorities.

Additional Duties:

Perform seasonal tasks such as snow removal, yard work, and upkeep of outdoor areas.

Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work is a plus.

Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and techniques.

Ability to lift and move heavy objects and perform physical tasks.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a school environment, which may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and working with various equipment.

Salary Range -$17.50 / Per Hour

Shift Type -Full-Time

Salary: $17.50 per hour plus benefits such as health insurance, life insurance, and the South Dakota Retirement System.
