Position Summary
Assesses, coordinates, and evaluates school health operational functions to ensure quality, cost effective case management and care coordination is provided. This position, manages and promotes the development, review and revision of policies and procedures that adhere to local, state, and/or federal legal and regulatory requirements within the Public Health Department.
All Registered Nurses employed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses. Public Health Nurses, regardless of official title or classification, may provide nursing services during urgent and/or emergent public health events. These services include, but are not limited to, administration of immunizations for various ages and groups, mass medication distribution, and provision of health services in shelter environments.
Essential Functions
* Interpret and ensure compliance with program policies, procedures and standards.
* Manage and direct day-to-day services and resources of school health operations.
* Participate in the development of policies and procedures for school health programs and ensures quality assurance activities and process improvement activities are conducted.
* Prepares and monitors program budget.
* Participate in community-level planning to develop partnerships and linkages with healthcare providers and areas of collaborative practice to ensure programs' needs are met.
* Present, train, and maintain appropriate standards from OSHA regarding contact with, and possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious body materials within the school or employment setting.
* Document health services per program policy using an electronic health record system.
* Act as a liaison between the school, home, public health professionals, health care providers, and other community agencies.
* Mecklenburg County Health Department employees: Respond in cases of urgent and/or emergent events that require public health interventions. Employees may be trained for and assigned duties unrelated to their regular work; work outside normal business hours and workdays and/or in a different work location may be required. Emergency events include, but are not limited to, communicable disease outbreaks, severe weather situations (e.g. snow or ice storms, tornados, hurricanes), natural disasters (e.g. earthquakes), fire, or power outages, and acts of terrorism.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
* Minimum of five years of nursing experience with two years of supervisory experience.
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Public Administration or related field.

Licenses and Certifications
* Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in NC issued by the NC Board of Nursing or another Nurse Licensure Compact State.
* Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) by the American Heart Association that is valid for at least 90 days after hire. Maintenance of this certification is required and as funds are available may be supported as part of employment.
* National certification for school nurse (NCSN) upon hire or within 3 years of hire. Maintenance of this certification is required.
* May require valid NC or SC driver's license.
* May require the ability to obtain and maintain a Mecklenburg County Operator's Permit (COP).
* Annual Mecklenburg County Human Resource background screening
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Public Administration or related field related.
