SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To supervise students in maintaining proper discipline standards during lunch duty; to assist administrator/teachers with non-instructional tasks.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees students during the lunch period.
- Supervises students during recess/yard duty.
- AS REQUESTED BY TEACHERS WITH APPROVAL OF THE PRINCIPAL:
- Calls the home of absent students.
- Keeps absentee records up-to-date.
- Decorates bulletin boards in the classroom.
- Keeps student data processing records (Middle/Junior/High) if applicable.
- Helps administer first aid to students when necessary.
- Operates ditto, mimeograph, laminator, and copying machines and other office machines.
- Types tests, reports, and any other materials needed if applicable.
- Grades test papers and workbooks.
- Updates cumulative folders with principal/teacher approval.
- Completes student referrals as needed.
- Writes behavior reports with administrative approval. Administrator must co-sign report. Copy of action pursued should be received from administrator.
- Becomes familiar with Student Services Handbook and Personnel Policy Manual. (Copies to be obtained from Administrator.)
- Checks medical records and sends out deficiency notices with principal approval.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the principal.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:
- The monitor will work in a school setting, climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy and in the outside areas which are subject to climate extremes.
- Work day consists of hours at assigned school site according to personnel department/school principal.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Telephone, computer, copy machine, intercom and P.A. systems, ditto machines, mimeograph, laminator and other appropriate office equipment.
PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Sitting, standing, walking, running, observing and monitoring student behavior in all facets of the school environment is require during the work day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Reaching, bending, lifting 10 pounds is sometimes required as well as the physical restraint of another person or persons.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Must understand written and verbal instructions from supervisor(s).
- Must have the ability to work independently after instructions are given.
- Must exhibit ability to make a decision in the supervisor's temporary absence.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to interact positively and be emphatic to students and parents.
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
- Must have the ability to work in group settings with both adults and children.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eighteen (18) years or older
- Education commensurate with site responsibilities, to be determined by the principal.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Substitute and/or parent/volunteer experience and/or High School Diploma or equivalency.
