Overview The Charter School of Wilmington is seeking School Nurse Substitutes who are excited to share our mission of engaging students in a world-class education that prepares them for college and beyond. As a School Nurse Substitute, you will play a vital role in supporting The Charter School of Wilmington's outcomes and strategy by providing health and wellbeing support to students, families, and teachers to ensure all kids receive the support and services they need to succeed and thrive. Key Responsibilities
- Perform nursing assessment for students and staff who are ill or injured; apply appropriate theory as basis for providing first aid, nursing care, intervention and referrals for those students and staff.
- Work collaboratively with health care providers, students' parents, school staff and community agencies to ensure access and continuity of care for students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and federal law and the school board.
Critical Experience and Qualifications
- 3 years of Supervised Clinical Nursing Experience consisting of a minimum of 500 hours per year for a total of 1,500 hours during the 3-year period. This requirement shall not be met in a school setting.
- Knowledge about pediatrics nursing and adolescent development and special populations.
- Experience and knowledge in first aid, immunizations, and communicable diseases.
- Knowledge of federal/state laws, rules and regulations as they apply to schools and special education
- Ability to work well with students, parents, and staff.
- Commitment and enthusiasm for working with a high-performing student population focused on implementing best practices related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
- Optimism, resilience, curiosity, and a strong passion for personal growth and student and teacher success.
Education Bachelor's Degree in nursing (BSN) from a Regionally Accredited college or university. Certification Requirements
- License to practice as a registered nurse, issued by the Delaware Board of Nursing, that is in good standing.
- Valid and current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
Compensation School Nurse Substitutes will be compensated at an hourly rate of $40. Direct deposit of payroll checks is mandatory for state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment. Notes A criminal background check, Delaware Child Protection Registry check, and tuberculin test are required.
