Job Description :
Those who presently do not hold an Act 235 certification are encouraged to apply.Salary:
  • Competitive hourly wage dependent on Act 120 certification or Act 235 certification.
Position:
  • Eight (8) hours per day
  • Nine (9) month position

Paid time off:
  • Days are pro-rated based on start date with the District and are allocated after successful completion of a 60-day probationary period.
    • Three (3) personal leave days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Security and Safety
  • Monitor surveillance system.
  • Supervise entry and exit areas as assigned.
  • Monitor parking areas.
  • Provide traffic control during dismissal times.
  • Implement and follow district polices for school security personnel and guidelines for use of force.
  • Respond to serious threats to the safety and well-being of students and staff.
  • Act as a liaison to local police departments and Lebanon County Emergency Management Agency.
  • Attend and supervise large events as directed by the Administration.
  • In the absence of the School Police Officer - OIC, an SPO (Act 120) would assume the role of the OIC.
  • Perform law enforcement functions in accordance with state laws and district policy (Act 120).
  • Issue citations for summary offenses as warranted (Act 120).
  • Assist School Police Officer(s) with law enforcement functions in accordance with state laws and district policy (Act 235).
Residence Verification
  • Conduct residency investigations that include home visits, surveillance, and searches of public record.
  • Consult and collaborate with school staff, parents, and students.
Attendance Monitoring and Enforcement
  • Consult and collaborate with school staff, parents, and students.
  • Conduct visitations and site monitoring.
  • Complete and file required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • District Justice- file citations, present cases, coordinate alternative sentencing (Act 120).
Judicial System and Agency Participation
  • Assist in reports to Lebanon County Children and Youth and other social support service agencies on behalf of district for attendance and neglect issues.
  • Testify on behalf of the district at District Justice, Family and Juvenile Court hearings.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain certification as school police officer and attend other relevant trainings and updates.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other local and state law enforcement agencies.
  • Answer telephone calls, emails, and staff questions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma
  • Experience in law enforcement/security (preferred)
  • Valid driver license
  • Successful Completion of Basic Police Training (Act 120)
  • Act 120 Certification or Act 235 Certification (preferred)
  • Current weapons certifications
  • National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Certified (preferred)
SPECIAL SKILLS:
  • Communication skills
  • Knowledge of the law and judicial system
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, permitted use of certain school police management systems, district data management system)
PHYSICAL / MENTAL / ENVIRONMENTAL:Physical Demands: Sitting at desk or in car for extended periods of time. Occasional bending, stooping, twisting, reaching and grasping. Lifting of up to 50 pounds. Physical interventionSensory Abilities: Visual acuity to read correspondence and computer screens. Auditory acuity to be able to use telephone. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.Temperament: Ability to work as a member of a team. Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with people. Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented. Ability to be flexible. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to deal in an adversarial environment while acting as an advocate. Mental Demands: Ability to interpret detailed written and verbal communications. Ability to function in fast-paced and high-pressure work setting.Environment: Schools, court, community, district meetings, district events, and car setting.
