- Masters Degree in social work
- Michigan approval or eligible for approval as a school social worker (310 form/temporary or full)
- Limited or Full Social Work License through the State of Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs Office (LARA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the area of school social work and experience in the areas of autism and cognitive impairments preferred
- Experience working with students (age 5-26) with low-incidence disabilities

Essential Job Functions:
- Provide regular consultation to program staff and parents in matters pertaining to the social-emotional needs of students.
- Develop and implement curriculum with emphasis on social-emotional behaviors.
- Participate as a member IEP Team (Individualized Educational Planning Team).
- Provide school social work services as determined by the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
- Provide and interpret assessments and evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and identify needs for programs and services including those that are stated in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
- Provide crisis prevention, planning, and intervention services, including assessments of the impact of trauma on development, learning, and school performance.
- Develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans to facilitate successful learning and socialization opportunities.
- Support the collection and use of various PBIS and behavioral assessments to assist school teams with data-based decision-making for implementing school-wide, targeted, and individualized interventions and supports.
- Provide liaison, coordination, and consultation services with schools, families, community agencies, and other resources to influence positive school outcomes for students regarding their social, emotional, and behavioral status impacting learning, development, mental health, and school success.
- Provide individual and group social skills interventions to students.
- Assist in the transition of students between ISD self-contained classrooms and local school districts.
- Adhere to Van Buren ISD policies and procedures.
- Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed-upon or established timelines.
- Perform additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisor.
