Science and Health Editor (Temp), NBC News Digital
NBC News is seeking an experienced editor for a temporary position overseeing its digital team dedicated to covering science, health, climate and space news.
This editor will oversee a team of three reporters and help coordinate and drive coverage across the digital newsroom and broader organization.
The science and health team produces a wide variety of journalism: covering breaking news during major weather events and natural disasters, producing drumbeat stories on the biggest issues of the day or week, and features that include original reporting and interactive graphics.
This editor will be comfortable assigning and editing stories on various science and health topics, such as the impacts of climate change on crucial infrastructure, the rise of alternative wellness influencers, groundbreaking studies on our understanding of how animals think and why the Northern Lights have been so intense recently. The editor should also be able to ideate on angles that produce distinct or exclusive coverage.
This editor will also be tasked with executing every step of the editorial process: from assignment and communication with other desks to ensuring stories have the best photos, videos and other elements to provide context to a reader.
The right candidate will thrive on being reactive to major breaking news and also proactive on the most pressing issues related to science and health, ensuring speed, accuracy, clarity and fairness. As an NBC News editor, you will be obsessive about keeping NBC News competitive on major news stories and reporting news first.
This role will work closely with other editors and senior leaders in the newsroom, and the right candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment.
This is a temporary 16-week assignment and can be remote or based in our headquarters in New York.
