Seasonal Barn Staff, Camp Gallahue - Girl Scouts of Central Indiana : Job Details

PURPOSE:To further the mission of the camp by providing supervision and ensuring a safe environment at the camp's horse activities.RESPONSIBLE TO:Camp Director & Site ManagerCAMP:Camp GallahueEMPLOYMENT DATES:May 27, 2025 - July 24, 2024Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, Inc. will recruit, hire, train, and promote persons in all job titles without regard to age, color, disability, genetic information, gender, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local law.Essential Job Functions: 1. Assist in supervising and guarding all horse activities: Provide surveillance during equestrian activities to help prevent and to manage injuries. Provide rescues as needed. Utilize first aid and CPR and other emergency management services as needed. Understand and implement appropriate responses to changes in weather conditions affecting the horse activities. Evaluate equestrian abilities of campers and staff.2. Assist instructional staff in program areas: Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures while in their program activity. Act as reference in horse activities. Assist in the delivery and supervision of all horse activities and special events at the barn.3. Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the horse program area: Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Clean stalls area daily keeping it free of hazards and debris. Clean bathroom and changing areas daily. Work with the site manager and camp director to ensure the safety of the horse barn.Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace and amongst the membership.Other Job Duties: *Participate enthusiastically in raining day program activities for units. *Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise programs, special events, and other activities and camp functions as needed. *Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the barn. *Makes every effort to have a strong, cohesive program to provide the best program and atmosphere for the campers. *Follow camp rules and regulations. *Cleans equipment at the start of summer and cleans and stores equipment at end of summer. *These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassessed, and other duties may be assigned as required.RequirementsQualifications: (Minimum qualifications and experience) Current certification in horse care and training or equivalent. Current certification in first aid and CPR. (Training provided at the start of camp for certification). Must be 16 years old or older.Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Training and experience in horse activities that are offered at the camp. Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.Physical Aspects of the Position: *Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers, volunteers, and staff.*Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.* Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.*Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.* Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.Some physical requirements of a barn position could be endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate horse equipment and horse activities. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs and the ability to lift to 50 lbs. Operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and varying weather conditions. Must hold membership in the Girl Scout organization and subscribe to the tenets of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
