The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for a KDHE Assistant Group Leader for Little Apple Day Camp. The Assistant Group Leader will be responsible for working directly with the youth campers 5 – 11 years of age. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.

This position includes full-time, daytime hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. during the summer camp timeframe). Assistant Group Leader duties run from late May to early August, but the selected candidate(s) must be available to attend a meeting in April.

Job Duties
  • Works directly with youth campers 5 – 11 years of age.
  • Implements and directs all daily activities which includes life sports, arts and crafts, games, musical, and outdoor recreational programs.
  • Accompanies campers on field trips and visits to public recreational facilities.
  • Provides supervision and guidance to a group of children or youth under the direction of a group leader.
  • Carries out the program activities.
  • Fosters positive, healthy relationships with children and youth.
  • Other duties as assigned.
RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Skills, & Additional Qualifications
  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Work or volunteer experience with school age children.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be obtained through Parks & Recreation)
  • Selected candidate(s) must pass a KBI background check.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
  • One year of college education, preferably with coursework in recreation, education, psychology, sociology or a related field.
Other Information
  • This is not a KPERS covered position.
  • Seasonal position (April – August).
