Location: Adirondacks, NY

Description of Duties:

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is hiring two (2) Seasonal Forest Property Technicians to support Forest Properties staff on the Adirondack Properties with the following types of activities:

* Forest inventory - stand evaluations, pre-harvest inventories, regeneration inventories, post-harvest inventories and photo points. Requires skills in tree identification, basic sampling methods and the use of field equipment.

* Marking property boundaries - locating and painting property boundaries, adding signage as needed. Requires the ability to use a GPS, map and compass.

* Timber sale setup - utilizing a variety of silvicultural techniques to assist Forest Properties staff with timber harvest preparation.

* Road and trail maintenance

You will work with professional foresters and develop a variety of field skills that will be beneficial throughout your career.

The position will be based on the ESF Adirondack Properties - Huntington Wildlife Forest/Newcomb Campus, Pack Demonstration Forest - Warrensburg Campus, Dubuar Memorial Forest - Wanakena Campus, and Pack Experimental Forest - Cranberry Lake. Transportation is provided from the office to the job site.

Housing will be available for eight (8) weeks at the Newcomb Campus, two (2) weeks at the Warrensburg Campus and two (2) weeks at the Wanakena Campus. This is a twelve (12) week appointment during the time frame of mid-May to late August.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

* Forestry graduates with an Associates or Bachelor's degree OR Forestry students working towards a Bachelor's degree.

* Interest in working outside, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.

* Some degree of physical endurance and the ability to work in isolated areas with challenging terrain and inclement weather.

* Ability to work with minimum supervision and as a team member.

* Must be 18 years old or older.

* Driver's license is required.
