Job Type Temporary Description Salary & Benefits: $15.50/hr. to start, 20% store discount Hours: Part-Time This position is for 2-3 months, if long-term openings become available seasonal staff will have the priority Job Summary: The Multi-Departmental Clerk includes cashier and stocker/receiver responsibilities. This role involves efficiently stocking, receiving, and cashiering while providing excellent customer service. The Clerk will report to either the Grocery & Wellness Manager/Assistant Manager, Produce Manager, or Front End Manager; depending on the task, and receive direction from Leads. Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Greet members and shoppers
  • Process customer transactions involving accurate use of the POS system, and accurate cash handling
  • Respond to questions about the co-op and products; refer members and shoppers to appropriate staff; assist with shopping needs
  • Receive and stock deliveries
  • Maintain clean and organized backstock area(s)
  • Maintain clean, attractive, well stocked and rotated displays throughout the department
  • Provide prompt and courteous assistance to shoppers fielding questions about the Co-op, products and assisting with shopping needs
  • Uphold Co-op's loss prevention policies and practices
  • Work collaboratively within a team of other Stocker/Receivers, Cashiers, Buyers, Managers and Leads to support each other around covering shifts, taking breaks and rotating responsibilities
  • Attend department and all staff meetings
  • Complete all closing or opening tasks depending on the shift
  • Act in compliance with food safety standards and policies for store, staff and department
  • Keep up-to-date on email and other communications
Requirements Key Aptitudes, Experience & Physical Qualifications:
  • Key Aptitudes & Experience
    • 1+ years in a retail setting, preferably in a grocery setting
    • 1+ years in a customer service position
    • Experience working or living in diverse communities
    • Basic knowledge of produce and natural foods; knowledge of agriculture, growing methods (organic, IPM, etc.), local foods and suppliers a plus
    • Demonstrated commitment to food justice a plus
    • Familiarity or experience with cooperative businesses a plus
    • Excellent verbal communication skills with an ability to give and receive direction
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills including customer service, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, de-escalation tactics and critical thinking
  • Physical Qualifications
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
    • Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend and reach
    • Ability to climb stairs and ladders many times throughout shift
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, well lit environment
    • Fine motor skills needed to safely operate light machinery, equipment and sharp tools
    • Able to perform responsibilities in cold and/or damp environments for sustained periods of time
