Seasonal Special Event Support JOB TYPE: PAY GRADE/RANGE: $17.00 per hour FLSA STATUS: OPENING DATE: CLOSING DATE: *Starting salary is dependent upon qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint for range. Scheduled Hours: March - December. The work schedule will vary depending on the event's needs but may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Must be able to work Tuesday Concerts and Saturday Movie Nights. Example schedule: 3:45pm - 9pm. Schedule subject to change.NATURE OF WORK: Under the direction of the Parks and Recreation Special Events Coordinator, this position is responsible for assisting and supporting special events including, concerts, runs, art programs, festivals, holidays events, community events, and other programming. We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about events and outdoor programming to join our team. Events and day-to-day activities are constantly evolving allowing for creative thinking and on-the-fly decision making. Events take place at locations around Evanston, candidate must have reliable transportation to areas of Evanston. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following):
- Assists with set-up and clean-up of special events equipment including tables, chairs, tents, signage, and other equipment.
- Must be able and willing to drive a city vehicle
- Provides support to the events team and staff.
- Assists with the implementation of special events.
- Monitors events during weekend and evening hours.
- Assists with loading and unloading of equipment for events.
- Supports hands-on activities and programming at events.
- Helps maintain special events warehouse and inventory.
- Provides exemplary customer service when interacting with event attendees.
- Performs related tasks as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK:
- Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or higher
- Must be able and willing to drive a city vehicle
- Must have state drivers license
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
- Must be willing and able to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to greet and communicate with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK: Work is performed both inside and outside with possible exposure to extreme temperatures. Work may require frequent walking and standing. Ability to work in confined spaces and to work safely around operating equipment. Ability to drive a city vehicle, including but not limited to, cars, vans, pick-up trucks with and without trailer attachment, and golf carts. Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects Ability to work outdoors, occasionally, in a variety of weather conditions such as extreme cold, high winds, rain, snow, sleet, high temperatures and humidity. Ability to perform heavy manual labor including, but not limited to, lifting heavy objects, climbing, sitting or standing for long periods of time; bend, crawl, identify or distinguish colors, recognize depth of objects, focus on small or distant objects, talk and hear.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: SUPERVISION: Work is performed under the general direction/supervision of the Special Events Coordinator or designee. The employee receives daily projects and assignments which will vary from season to season and day to day. Assignments can be either verbal, written or through email, phone call or text message with the employee determining proper procedure and work methods and is responsible for completing the work according to City work rules and safety regulations. Work is reviewed through ongoing observation, written and verbal communication, meetings, and feedback from supervisors and other department employees. Guidance is provided through rules and regulations, policies and procedures, Unified Work Rules, Union Contract, Personnel Rules and OSHA. Work is evaluated at least annually for the safe and skilled operation of equipment, quality of tasks, adherence to work rules, and performance in accordance with classification standards.PUBLIC CONTACT: The employee has regular contact with the general public as well as other City employees to answer general questions, set up events, and describe general maintenance issues.
