An individual could be successful if they possess the following.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Track Equipment Operator is responsible for using tractors, spreaders, water trucks and other equipment to prepare, maintain and repair track to meet and exceed designated standards to ensure safety of horses, jockeys and personnel. Supports various maintenance and labor projects throughout the property as needed. Always presents a friendly and professional image at the Hotel/Casino/Resort. The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:
- Maintains the track in optimal conditions. Harrows, rolls, and floats track between races and as needed for workout sessions.
- Operate tractors, water trucks, spreaders and other equipment to maintain/groom the dirt track.
- Responsible for reading, observing, enforcing and understanding all safety rules for safe operation for each piece of equipment.
- Maintain tractors, water trucks, equipment and tracks.
- Must use sound judgement when using equipment around the horses.
- Operate horse ambulance and backup horse ambulance.
- The ability to learn the dirt track grooming patterns for the various types of races and distances.
- Operates water truck to add water to the track in the afternoon and in-between races
- Performs preventative maintenance such as changing oil, replacing belts, etc. Performs minor corrective maintenance on equipment, such as trucks, tractors, track equipment, etc. to repair equipment.
- Repairs and installs track rail
- Rake and shovel material from track rails
- Uses various hand tools
- Maintain the professional appearance of the racetrack and ensures the adherence of the preventative maintenance program
- Ensure timely response to all reports of safety hazards and proper communication
- Uphold standards and practices that support the comprehensive safety and integrity of horseracing
- Perform all of the duties and responsibilities in a professional, friendly, courteous and helpful manner, maintaining extreme confidentiality with all information
- Maintains an attitude & philosophy consistent with the company Core Values and Standards of Behavior with internal & external guests
- Punctual attendance required
- Ability to work required overtime.
- Follows established procedures and policies of the Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Ability to use equipment associated with position; including but not limited to the use of tractors, spreaders, etc

- 1+ years track maintenance experience or similar role
- Experience with industry equipment (i.e. tractor, truck, grader, front end loader etc.) preferred
- Experience with OSHA standards of safety
- Current State issued Driver's License
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job does not have supervisory responsibilities.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS- Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Oaklawn Jockey Club.
