Position Type: Security/Security OfficerDate Posted: 5/31/2024Location: SecurityPosition Title: Security Officer I FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt 12-Month; Non-Instructional Reports to: Security Supervisor Position Purpose: This position provides assurance and access to 24/7 monitoring surveillance equipment and patrolling the school's property to protect the entire campus, students, staff, guests, and visitors. Daily foot patrols permit the securing of all vital access points and the inspection of all buildings. Operational knowledge of the Identification process to permit parents, visitors, and guest entry on campus. A high level of alertness and professionalism is required to ensure safety at all times, especially during emergency situations. Provide leadership and guidance while maintaining confidentiality on a daily basis. Essential Functions:
- Patrols the campus and surrounding areas via school vehicle, golf cart and/or foot patrol.
- Completes and updates Security Patrol Logs daily by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities.
- Inspect I.D.'s at the Main Entrance; Remind staff to wear their I.D.'s and check in all visitors and guests.
- Reports security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior.
- Assists with the administrations and the operations of the Security Department, while adhering to the policies and procedures of Overbrook School for the Blind
- Monitors and operates CCTV Systems, Mobile Radios, Intercom, Blue Call Boxes, and Fire/Burglar Alarms.
- Respond to campus emergency situations and follow the school's protocol in a professional manner.
- Able to work under pressure independently and/or in a group setting.
- Provides transportation for students, staff, and guests as needed, under the direct instructions of the Security Supervisor; Must clean and gas school vehicles before and after use.
- Ensures all equipment is operational; informs the Security Supervisor when equipment malfunctions.
- Directs campus traffic, parking, school bus drop-offs, and pick-ups.
- Assists with snow/debris removal.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Security Supervisor.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 1- 3 years of experience with Security, Law Enforcement, or a Military Background.
- 235 Certification preferred.
- Maintain a valid driver's license (CDL preferred).
- Must have basic computer skills plus experience with Closed Circuit TV Systems.
- Communication Skills (English) oral and written; Confidence in conveying information to all types of members of the community, including teachers, administrators, other staff members, and students.
- Must be professional and stay alert at all times
- Ability to work as a team member and handle frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrates good judgment and dependability.
- Maintain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Requires prolonged standing, walking, stooping, twisting, and squatting on a constant basis.
- Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Repetitive motion of the finger, hands, and wrist.
- Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Work in a wide variety of environments as found in all areas of the school.
