Location/Department:Hospital - Safety & CompliancePT - Multiple openings available - 4 hr min per shift (6P-10P)Job Summary:Under the supervision & direction of the Director of Risk & Compliance, the Security Officer will perform armed security-related duties which include, but are not limited to investigating disturbances on hospital premises; monitoring the Emergency Department (primarily) & Main Lobby areas for entrances & departures of patient, visitors, & other persons to maintain security of hospital premises; performing periodic floor patrols within the hospital building(s); writing reports of daily activities & irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences; warning persons of rule infractions or violations & apprehending or evicting violators from premises, using force when the officer reasonably believes that force is necessary; & performing other duties as assigned.The Security Officer may be required to effect arrests, subdue resisting individuals, or force entry into rooms/buildings.Supervisory Responsibilities:None Duties/Responsibilities:
- Investigates disturbances on hospital premises.
- Monitors the Emergency Department & Main Lobby areas (primarily) for entrances & departures of patients, visitors, & other persons to maintain security of hospital premises.
- Writes reports of daily activities & irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
- Performs periodic floor patrols within the hospital buildings(s) as necessary & as time permits.
- Warns persons of rule infractions or violations & apprehends or evicts violators from premises, using force when necessary; performs arrest functions when necessary.
- Informs the Nursing Supervisor on duty &/or the Safety Coordinator of ongoing security-related activities & changes on a routine basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assists with training as requested.
- Knowledgeable of emergency codes & assists as needed or requested.
- Provide team member training on security procedures as requested.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Effectively communicates both verbal & written.
- Able to operate security systems, fire alarm panel & basic office equipment.
- Possesses a working knowledge of law enforcement theories, methods & procedures as well as laws & procedure of search & seizure, arrest, evidence, & crime scene protection.
Education and Experience:
- Additional training beyond high school required.
- Active duty or reserve law enforcement officer with authority to issue citations & perform arrest functions required.
- Documented training on weapons through the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA)
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent walking, sitting, standing, talking & use of hands.
- Occasionally may need to lift up to 25 lbs
