Job SummaryThe Security Officer is responsible for enforcing the college rules, parking and traffic regulations, and providing other security and safety related services as requested by the police administration. A key member of the emergency response team and will partner with the police staff to address security needs for the district.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPatrol college property to include the parking areas and buildings. Ensure all areas are free of safety hazards, buildings are locked or unlocked as required, and that the rules of the college and laws of the state are followed.Issue College parking citations for illegally parked vehicles or other violations as set out by the college regarding parking regulations. Complete incident reports of a non-criminal nature in the police department electronic records management system.Report all hazardous and dangerous conditions that may affect the safety and well-being of students, employees and visitors.Provide security escorts, information and arrange motorist assistance as needed for members of the campus community. Provide information and assistance to visitors at college facilities.Maintain a high level of visibility to deter criminal activity such as theft or disturbances of the peace, and assist police officers with investigations of incidents.Ensure that hallway noise does not disrupt teaching and remove problematic students from class upon request of a staff member.Respond to emergency situations as a first responder to aid the execution of the emergency plan as assigned. Demonstrate good character, honesty, courage, discipline, alertness and be ethical. Ensure Uniforms and all accessories are neat, clean, pressed and in good repair, projecting a professional image.Remain courteous, demonstrate emotional maturity in stressful situations, and express interest in his/her interactions with the community.Create and submit accurate reports and comprehend the department's General Orders and directives. Assist HCCS Police Officers when requested or as assigned.Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- College preferred
- 2 years military, security officer experience or experience in criminal justice careers, such as police officers, court clerks, bailiffs, corrections officers, criminalists, etc. is preferred
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License
- Certificate of completion from approved Texas Department of Public Safety, Private Security Bureau Level II Training Course preferred

Working ConditionsGeneral office. May frequently be required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator. Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach and bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
