Selma AmeriCorps 1200 Hour Electrical Apprentice
Members are assigned to site locations by the Program that will receive AmeriCorps services. Pre-service orientation is mandatory prior to the program start date. During this time, no service or training hours are earned. However, all required documentation is gathered as well as criminal history checks performed. Criminal history checks must be completed prior to service. Failure to attend pre-service orientation will result in non-acceptance into the program. At no time, may a member engage in prohibited activities which include religious or faith based service activities. Member must complete at least 75-80% of service to include performing direct service, community service, or training. Member may complete 20-25% of service conducting weekly meetings and research for resources with prior approval of Program Director. Selma AmeriCorps have three general categories for members. They are Community Liaison, Electrical Apprentice, and Carpentry/Masonry Apprentice. All training will be arranged by the Selma AmeriCorps. Trainings are ongoing throughout the service year. They will be provided during orientation, member meetings, city breaks, and etc. Trainings are usually 4 to 8 hours depending on the topic. NCCER Training will occur from 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm Monday through Wednesday at Wallace Community College Selma. Members are expected to complete a term of service hour of 1200 hours for Three-Quarter-Time, 900 hours for Half-Time, or 675 hours for Reduced-Half-Time which will end September 30, 2024. Member Duties : AmeriCorps members will assist citizens, repair houses and units, disseminate information, facilitate meetings, in Selma-Dallas County, Alabama. Specifically, members will provide housing repair assistance and assist low income families in securing safe and affordable housing as well as provide intake and assessment, disseminate housing information to citizens, assist citizens with completing housing applications and other required paperwork, and assist with financial literacy and home buying workshops.
