Communications & Power Industries (CPI) is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Senior Accountant to join our finance team. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing cost accounting, program accounting, and manufacturing excellence within our dynamic and fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position involves partnering with plant management and the leadership team to implement financial strategies, drive continuous improvement, and ensure the financial growth and operational efficiency of the plant's operations.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Cost Accounting Management

  • Manage and maintain costing activities related to standard costing, inventory control, Bill of Materials (BOM) review, Excess & Obsolete (E&O) inventory review, and workflow processes within a manufacturing environment.
  • Establish costs for business processes such as administration, labor, shipping, and more.
  • Prepare product costing, divisional analysis, and allocation analysis of shared operational costs.
  • Analyze and evaluate program financial results, Estimates at Completion (EAC), and determine appropriate profitability levels.
  • Update and analyze standard costs and associated variances.

Month-End Close Activities

  • Participate in month-end close processes, including preparing journal entries, managing the general ledger, and conducting account analysis.
  • Perform account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with financial standards.

Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect and analyze data on operational costs to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Advise leadership on appropriate costing based on financial data and analysis.
  • Prepare financial analysis and reports for management and private equity investors.
  • Generate and review various reports or analyses to meet annual audit and/or tax authority reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation of the three-year annual business plan and monthly forecasts.

Inventory and Cost Management

  • Work with management to track and manage inventory carrying costs.
  • Conduct inventory analysis to optimize inventory levels and reduce carrying costs.
  • Recommend changes to company processes and policies to reduce costs and maximize profit.

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing excellence and operational efficiency.
  • Implement best practices in cost accounting and financial management.
  • Lead and support manufacturing excellence projects aimed at cost reduction and process optimization.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Partner with internal functional department leaders, including program managers, engineers, and plant finance, to drive financial performance and implement new and improved processes.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners and cross-functional teams at all levels of the organization.

Compliance and Audit Support

  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal control procedures.
  • Support external audit activities by providing accurate documentation and financial data.
  • Supervise the implementation of new GAAP requirements and ensure adherence to government agency regulations as needed.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of cost accounting experience.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (JD Edwards, OneStream XF) and financial software.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookups, Filters).
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking abilities with a data-driven and fact-based mindset.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively report quality activities and financial data.
  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to work extended or non-standard business hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:

  • Experience with long-term contract and job costing accounting.
  • Proven track record of driving cost reductions and process improvements.
  • Certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation preferred.

Technical Expertise:

  • Familiarity with private equity reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of advanced financial analysis techniques and methodologies.
