For the 2017-2018 academic year, the program was held at the South Texas College campuses in McAllen (STC) and in fall 2018, classes were expanded and relocated to a new facility in north McAllen - the Texas A&M University Higher Education Center at McAllen (HECM). Students at the HECM satisfy the same admission requirements as all students admitted to Texas A&M University.The HECM continues to grow and provide a world-class educational experience founded on Texas A&M's unique core values and traditions in a supportive college community that embraces the rich culture and spirit of South Texas. With a 12-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio, a variety of undergraduate degree programs, and numerous student organizations, the center offers a unique Aggie experience while remaining close to home.What we wantThe Senior Career Services Coordinator is responsible for: providing career advising, planning new initiatives, and designing and implementing programming for students; meeting with the staff within the program area and facilitating routine meetings with faculty and staff; developing programming beyond workshops and class presentations; responsibility for center-wide projects as they relate to the specific program areas; management responsibility within the program area.What you need to knowLocation: McAllen, TXSalary: $50,000.00 annually (based on selected hire's qualification)Required Education and Experience:* Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.* Four years of related experience in higher education, business, industry, or government to include two years of experience in career advising for targeted populations.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* Ability to work effectively with various constituents of the Career Center; i.e., students, employers, college administrators, faculty, and staff. Requires excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.* Ability to work independently and manage multiple, on-going programs and services.* Experience with complex databases and computer software programs; proficient in researching and utilizing online resources.* Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.Preferred Qualifications:* Master's degree.* More than four years of experience, including two years as a Career Services Coordinator with demonstrated progressive responsibility within the Texas A&M Career Center.* Participation on committees dedicated to special projects and service to events beyond the scope of assigned groups/areas of responsibility.* Knowledge of Microsoft Office.* Knowledge of Career Center software and operating procedures.* Experience working with college students, in a corporate or academic environment.* Working knowledge of career development strategies and techniques.Essential Duties/Tasks:* Manage Career Assistance Programs and Services - Establishes, oversees, creates, and implements career planning programs, events, and offerings. Advises the Higher Education Center (HEC) at McAllen students in the areas of career/major exploration, career planning, and job search skills/techniques such as resume writing, job search strategies, networking, and interviewing. Creates and conducts workshops, class presentations, and events covering career and major-related subjects. These events include bringing specific employers to the HEC McAllen campus, highlighting career options, and/or addressing specific areas consistently requested by a wide range of students. Participates in the creation and/or facilitation of center-wide initiatives that benefit multiple programs areas. Participates in large-scale and small-scale center programs or events.* Presentations and Campus Relations - Actively markets and leads events, services, and special programs available through this position to constituent groups, including HEC McAllen, throughout campus and within the community. Meets regularly (to be determined by the coordinator) with academic advisors and select faculty and staff within the program area. Meets annually with administration within the college or program area to provide information about services and progress throughout the year. Creates reports each semester for faculty and administration within the program area. Creates and submits special programs to be presented at regional and national conferences.* Committees and Support of Career Center Initiatives - Manages Career Center committee(s) and programs. Supports the Career Center mission by participating in programs and services including the presentation of workshops and events, center-wide events and initiatives, drop-in advising, committee work, and weekly meetings. Participates in Career Center, University, and professional organization training and development offerings.* Employer Engagement - Instrumental in maintaining and deepening the partnerships with employers who seek target population students. Interacts with employers at events on campus as well as at conferences and other regional events to increase opportunities for students in program area. Provides those employers with information about students and processes for recruiting on campus. Works closely with Employment Services program of the Career Center to carry out these duties.* Resource Development - Compiles resources that provide career-related information for HEC McAllen students. Conducts both quantitative and qualitative research to determine the technical and professional skills that students must possess to succeed in their chosen careers, including industry and employment trends, employer expectations, and tools for assessment of students' mastery of these skills. Develops new resources, both electronic and hard-copy, for students, advisors and faculty. Maintains website content for this population on the Career Center website and develops new content. Contributes to social media and web content regularly for the Career Center.
