POSITION SUMMARY:

The Data Analyst is responsible for overseeing our data systems and reporting frameworks, guaranteeing the integrity and precision of data. The ideal candidate will transform raw data into structured information, which will then be analyzed to glean insights that drive strategic business decisions. This position encompasses a comprehensive analysis lifecycle, covering requirement and reporting functions, as well as supervising performance and quality assurance processes to pinpoint areas for enhancement. The Data Analyst will work with all departments to identify and develop necessary reports in these systems to assist with various hospital and departmental functions. This position will work in conjunction with partners across Stony Brook Medicine to ensure operational alignment and efficiencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyst responsible for maintaining and processing all data used for Reporting.
  • Design, code and maintain SQL queries used within Cerner's Hosted platform for reporting.
  • Run attribution algorithms, maintain and execute scripts used to generate reports.
  • Design, code and operationalize reports as requested by the end-user for the purpose of quality, process monitoring or regulatory requirements. This data will be extracted from multiple source systems, normalized, and ultimately provided in the format requested by the business.
  • Design and develop custom data marts using SQL server to be used as input for dashboards and reporting requirements.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the report catalog.
  • Improve performance and accuracy of existing reports by optimizing existing SQL statements as necessary and establishing best practices.
  • Author technical requirements and design specifications as needed.
  • Communicate results of data analyses in a clear and effective manner to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Test and validate all report outputs and visualization dashboards using various queries and tools.
  • Work in a high-paced team environment with the ability to multitask when required based on project plan and business priorities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, other applied science field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a technical/data analyst role in a data driven environment.
  • Proficient knowledge of SQL:
    • Working with SQL server and Oracle; able to write sound, efficient, and proper SQL statements ensuring stability, reliability, and performance of databases.
    • Experience with stored procedures and able to query complex datasets and derive conclusions, including using all types of joins between multiple tables.
    • Skilled at optimizing large complicated SQL statements and knowledge of best practices.
  • 3+ years' experience in data mining, large-scale data acquisition, transformation, and cleaning, both structured and unstructured.
  • Experience with data modeling, data structure principles and designing database tables that facilitate efficient information retrieval.
  • Competency in data manipulation and analysis; accessing raw data in varied formats with different methods and analyzing and processing data.
  • The Data Analyst must have programming proficiency with analytical platform software and BI systems expertise including but not limited to Business Objects, SQL and Tableau.
  • Considerable experience with statistical tools and methods to incorporate statistical results into analyses.
  • Ability to turn vague concepts and asks into well-documented and effective business metrics and insights.
  • Strong knowledge and comfort level with Excel.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of PostgreSQL, Python and SSIS a plus.
  • Experience with the Cerner Electronic Medical Record and Population Health applications.
  • Mentor/direct junior programmer analyst team member(s).
  • Knowledge of HL7 transactions, Health Care Claims (837), and/or CCDA a plus.
  • Knowledge of, and exposure to, established standards of care presented by CMS, NCQA, AHRQ, IOM, The Join.
  • Experience with tableau or other data statistical, visualization, and predictive modeling software.
  • Electronic health record review and abstraction ability and experience.
