But more importantly, you work for the good of your career, your family, your community, and your world.Job Summary:Caterpillar IT GCIO SD&D are looking for Senior Data Specialist.Senior Data Specialist will be responsible for designing, constructing, installing, testing, and maintaining highly scalable data management systems. As Senior Data Specialist, you will also perform analytical tasks and initiatives on huge amount of data to support data-driven business decision and development, to assess organization's technical performance and makes system enhancement recommendations. She/He will enable Caterpillar to deliver value to the bottom line by modernizing many of its legacy applications including Warranty, Parts Pricing, and inventory management. You will also provide expertise to solve business challenges and achieve profitable business strategies leveraging Caterpillar's global footprint.As Senior Data Specialist you will interface with product owners, IT architects, stakeholders, senior leadership, technical or non-technical teams, and Program Managers to design and support scalable technical solutions and databases for many of our modernization projects to meet the future needs of our business partners.What You Will Do:
  • Analyze customer requirements based on the understanding of conformed models and catering solutions that are implementable and maintainable. Conduct technical analysis of new requests from internal customers to gather requirements, analyze, and convert into technical requirements for optimal coding structure for technical development.
  • Understanding software development and web technologies and having proficiency in SQL and other data programming languages.
  • Provide architectural expertise, direction, and assistance to facilitate the delivery of solutions that align with business objectives in a cost-efficient manner. Researching, designing, and documenting data specifications at all points in the production life cycle.
  • Conduct data gathering, data mining, data processing and data modeling for future applications and/or to modernize current applications (including processing, cleansing, and verification of datasets used for analysis). Discern data accuracies in large sets of data of diverse formats.
  • Performs data cleansing and data quality improvement using SQL and/or Python programming.
  • Lead requirement definition and scope of data analyses, presenting and reporting possible business insights to management using data visualization technologies.
  • Assist SM, Technical lead and development teams to analyze, define and document client's requirements, and revise existing systems logic challenges, as necessary. Provides insight into developing diverse and multiple requirements analyses.
  • Conduct Data discovery, data preparation and data processing for business intelligence.
  • Conduct research on data model optimization and algorithms to improve effectiveness and accuracy on data analyses.
  • Communicate effectively with Business teams to understand the business needs to improve current models or building new models
  • Define systems integration processes and practices.
  • Adapt to diverse business climates.
  • Participate on 2-3 projects concurrently.
What You Have:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Database design, management and support experience: ability to establish a data model for designing an organization's database that runs effectively and efficiently for better business outcome.
  • Ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events, to participate in model reviews and walkthroughs, to explain existing models to clients and describes their associated business processes.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and services of cloud computing; ability to design, deploy and implement cloud computing solutions in various business environment.
  • Detailed driven, analytical with problem-solving skills
  • Strong skills in ETL processes; ability to develop a database through the ETL process.
  • Strong programming skills and working knowledge of Java script, procedural SQL, and Python
  • Advanced skills in database performance and SQL query tuning
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies and the agile development lifecycle; ability to utilize formal agile methodologies, disciplines, practices and techniques for the delivery of new and enhanced applications
  • Experience working on large-scale projects and with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as Snowflake, MySQL, ...
  • Have excellent collaboration skills.
Top candidates will have proven experience in the following:
  • Good effective communications skills being able to explain conclusions to our business partners.
  • Utilizing CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps
  • Agile Scrum Master certification

  • The primary location for this position is East Peoria, IL or Chicago, IL.
  • This position may require 20% travel.
