Job Description :

Role Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Development Engineer to lead early-stage design and technical development for utility-scale Solar and Energy Storage projects, as well as standalone Energy Storage initiatives. This position will involve working closely with internal teams across various departments-such as business development, procurement, project finance, construction, and operations-and collaborating with external contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.

As the primary technical point of contact for solar and energy storage projects, the Senior Development Engineer will oversee the creation of preliminary designs, performance estimates, cost forecasts, and project schedules based on limited initial data. These inputs will be essential for project development, proposal submissions, and acquisition assessments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technical design and engineering efforts for utility-scale solar and energy storage projects in the early stages, supporting business development teams in responding to bidding opportunities.
  • Manage internal and external resources to generate preliminary designs, cost estimates, performance forecasts, and schedules that will be included in both formal and informal project proposals.
  • Evaluate and clearly communicate potential site constraints, cost adders, and schedule risks.
  • Provide expert guidance on the selection of key project components, including solar modules, inverters, and racking systems.
  • Collaborate with acquisition teams to identify and manage key diligence requirements for new opportunities.
  • Represent the company in client meetings, interviews, and negotiations, working with developers, suppliers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders.
  • Support the development of design specifications and scope documents for the EPC contracting process, including bid analysis.
  • Participate in or manage site visits to gather preliminary data for project scoping and design documentation.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to internal business development initiatives and projects.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the energy industry, with at least 2 years directly involved in the design, permitting, and construction of solar and/or energy storage projects.
  • Strong understanding of design optimization, market trends, supplier capabilities, and technical specifications in the renewable energy sector.
  • Knowledge of standalone battery storage project design, including contracting approaches, integration with other generation facilities (solar, wind), and cost considerations.
  • Experience with project financing, independent engineer requirements, and energy performance estimation.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and negotiating EPC contracts, technical documents, and agreements for solar and energy storage projects.
  • Proven track record of managing relationships with consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with relevant standards, codes, and construction practices (e.g., US and IEC).
  • Excellent attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification in mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering.
  • Ability to drive project development efforts and technical design from initial concept through project delivery.

Compensation:

The salary for this position is dependent on factors such as geographic location, qualifications, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on both individual and company performance.

We are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse work environment where people from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. If you feel you meet most of the qualifications but not all, we encourage you to apply and share how you can contribute to the success of our team.
