Desert Publications Inc. seeks a senior editor to join our team in sunny Palm Springs, California. Now in its 66th year, the independently owned company produces several consumer and custom publications including the award-winning monthly magazine Palm Springs Life . Note: This is an on-site job in Palm Springs, California. You will not be considered unless you live in the general geographical area or are willing to relocate. Relocation funds are not available. Candidates for the senior editor position must be enthusiastic, self-starting leaders who, first and foremost, know their way around a comma and have a strong ability to craft engaging, informative stories. The senior editor writes, edits, fact-checks, and manages publications, relying on a combination of AP and house style guides. This individual must handle tight deadlines, juggle multiple projects, and work both independently and in team settings to develop compelling content for print and digital platforms, working closely with all members of the editorial department. The role also coordinates with sales, marketing, and events teams on sponsored and promotional content. This is a full-time, salaried, in-office position with room to grow and stretch creatively alongside our team of talented employees. Responsibilities Include: Writing and assigning stories, preparing contracts, and coaching freelance writers. Writing headlines, decks, and captions. Line editing and copyediting manuscripts, proofing layouts at various stages. Fact-checking information, providing research assistance, and managing editorial databases. Collaborating across departments and with clients to assess editorial and advertorial objectives for print, digital, and social properties. Collaborating with art directors on photography and design. Pitching and developing new processes that improve or ease client or internal efforts. Immersing in the community to discover story ideas, businesses, and experiences to cover. Education and Skill Requirements: Minimum five years writing and editing experience, preferably at a magazine. Outstanding copyediting/rewriting (AP style), organizational, and time-management skills. Fine aesthetic sensibilities, solid story judgment. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe InDesign. Familiarity with digital content management, SEO, WordPress, and Photoshop. Ability to plan print and web content in tandem. Ability to thrive in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment. Bachelors degree in journalism, communication, or English preferred.
