Description

The Senior Finance Director is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the Boys & Girls Club's financial operations. This position involves managing accounting processes, ensuring compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, and providing strategic leadership to the finance and accounting team. Reporting directly to the VP of Accounting, the Senior Finance Director collaborates with multiple departments to drive financial strategy, support audits, and maintain a robust financial structure in alignment with organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management & Compliance
    • Oversee the preparation, review, and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, grant requirements, and all relevant accounting standards.
    • Manage and optimize banking relationships to maximize returns and minimize financial risks.
    • Establish, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures to maintain operational efficiency and integrity.
  • Leadership & Team Oversight
    • Provide leadership and strategic guidance to the finance and accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
    • Ensure the smooth and accurate processing of financial transactions, including payroll, accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), and billing/collections.
    • Support the team through mentorship, professional development, and performance evaluation.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis
    • Direct the timely production of monthly and annual financial reports to meet internal and external reporting requirements.
    • Partner with leadership to develop financial forecasts, budgets, and performance analyses to support strategic decision-making.
    • Maintain accurate tracking and reporting for restricted funds, grants, and donations, ensuring compliance with donor stipulations.
  • Audit & Grants Management
    • Manage relationships with external auditors and oversee a smooth and efficient annual audit process.
    • Ensure proper accounting for restricted funds and grant allocations, meeting all reporting and compliance obligations.
    • Collaborate with program and development teams to align financial strategies with grant and donor objectives.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Oversee payroll, AR, AP, and other business transaction processes to ensure timely and accurate execution.
    • Maintain and improve financial systems, processes, and internal controls to support operational needs and strategic growth.
    • Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of all financial records and transactions.
  • Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's or CPA preferred).
    • Strong background in nonprofit accounting.
    • Deep knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
    • Proven experience in managing restricted funds, grants, and donor reporting.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency in financial management software and tools, as well as advanced Excel skills.
