About the Role:

Our client is actively seeking a Licensed Professional Geologist or Certified Engineering Geologist in California to lead their Forestry team. This position plays a critical role in geologic and slope stability assessments for private timberlands. The Senior Geologist will oversee Timber Harvest Plans, Habitat Conservation Plan compliance, watershed analysis, and landslide mitigation while mentoring a team of geologists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Supervise and mentor geologists and geologists-in-training.
  • Training: Deliver geologic training sessions for foresters and resource professionals.
  • Field Work: Conduct geologic field studies, mapping, and aerial photographic analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Prepare Timber Harvest Plans and Watershed Wide Waste Discharge Reports.
  • Restoration: Manage road construction, repair, and stream restoration with minimal environmental impact.
  • Data Analysis: Maintain a landslide inventory and analyze watershed data.
  • Collaboration: Work with Registered Professional Foresters and resource professionals.
  • Public Presentations: Share geologic findings in both private and public settings.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in Geology, Geomorphology, Soil Science, or Watershed Science.
  • Experience: At least 5 years in forestry geosciences or related fields.
  • Licensure: Must hold or be able to attain a California Professional Geologist or Certified Engineering Geologist license.
  • Skills: Proficient in GPS, topographic mapping, ArcView/ArcPro, and MS Office Suite (CAD experience is a plus).
  • Physical Capability: Comfortable hiking steep terrains and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Expertise: In-depth knowledge of mass wasting geomorphology and soil conservation in forested environments.

Work Environment:

  • Conditions: Frequent exposure to steep terrains, adverse weather, and varying outdoor conditions.
  • Equipment: Regular use of four-wheel-drive and all-terrain vehicles.
  • Environment: Moderate noise levels with occasional exposure to airborne particles.
