DescriptionWORK LOCATION: San Luis Obispo, CASALARY RANGE: $150,000 - $275,000FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUMMARYWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior House Counsel. This role will be responsible for using specialized knowledge of international, national, state, and/or local laws to advise and represent the organizations in criminal or civil proceedings and other legal matters. This position requires a self-directed individual who is familiar with both government and private sectors, capable of performing full-spectrum legal responsibilities while maintaining meticulous documentation and organization.RESPONSIBILITIESThe following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties. Legal Advising and Representation:
- Provide expert legal advice and counsel in support of business activities and transactions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Represent the organization in criminal and civil proceedings, negotiations, and other legal matters as required.
Research and Interpretation:
- Conduct thorough research and interpret existing laws and regulations, as well as anticipated changes, to guide informed decision-making and mitigate risks.
- Stay updated on legal trends and developments relevant to the organization's operations.
Drafting and Reviewing Documents:
- Prepare, review, and negotiate various agreements, contracts, and legal documents to ensure they align with organizational goals and legal standards.
- Ensure all documentation is accurate, organized, and compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
Litigation Management:
- Oversee and manage litigation processes, including coordinating with external counsel when necessary, to protect the organization's interests.
- Develop litigation strategies and provide guidance on potential legal risks related to ongoing cases.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Advise on compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, identifying potential legal risks and developing strategies to address them.
- Establish and maintain legal policies and procedures to promote a culture of compliance within the organization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure legal considerations are integrated into business planning and operational processes.
- Provide training and support to staff on legal matters, fostering a proactive approach to compliance and risk management.
Organizational Skills:
- Demonstrate strong documentation and organizational skills to manage multiple legal projects and priorities effectively.
- Maintain accurate records of all legal matters, ensuring timely responses to legal inquiries and adherence to deadlines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSThe following are a non-exhaustive list of qualifications for the position:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the State Bar.
- Proven experience in corporate law, litigation, and regulatory compliance of 5+ years.
- Experience with international and national aviation industry
- Experience with private equity owned companies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly.
- Familiarity with government and private sector operations.
- Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects independently.
- Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
