Base pay is influenced by several factors including a candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, and anticipated contributions to meet the needs of the business, along with internal pay equity and external market driven rates. The Senior Internal Auditor oversees and conducts operational and financial audits of assigned organizational and functional activities with the highest level of professionalism and integrity to evaluate and improve effectiveness of the organization's control environment and determine compliance with established policies.

The Senior Internal Auditor reports audit findings and makes recommendations for corrective action and performs special reviews/advisory engagements as assigned by the Manager.

The Senior Internal Auditor also provides training support for less experienced internal auditors.

The incumbent will report to the Manager, Financial and Operational Audit, with ultimate upward reporting to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

* Risk Based Audits - Independently, or collectively with other audit team members, facilitates all aspects of the operational and financial audit process to include engagement planning, risk identification and assessments, work plan coordination, control identification, preparation of audit programs to fulfill the audit objectives, testing and workpaper creation, analysis of results, and report writing. Reads, interprets, and applies various regulations, IIA standards, and technical resources. Reviews staff documentation and ensures that items are filed in accordance with related IIA standards as to support the assigned audit engagement. Raises and discusses audit observations with the applicable business owners and executive management to reach consensus and address issues. Compiles and prepares complete, detailed reports on audits and related recommendations. Directly supports the audit planning process and continued development and stewardship of the department's audit methodology/framework. Identifies and implements enhancements in line with Institute of Internal Auditors standards and practices.

* Model Audit Rule - Performs control testing required for compliance with the NAIC Annual Financial Reporting Model Regulation (AFRMR), also known as Model Audit Rule. Assesses the impact of identified exceptions and collaborate with control owners on remediation actions. Also perform walkthroughs of in-scope processes and compile necessary documentation to support the test of design of key controls.

* External Audit Direct Assistance - Provide substantive direct assistance testing to the company's external auditor in support of their annual financial statement audit.

* Maintains and improves managerial and technical proficiencies; and remains current with new policies, procedures, rules and regulations through continuing education, professional publications, in-house and external training.

Skills:

* Innovative, outside the box thinker and adaptable to a changing environment with demonstrated ability to evaluate regulatory, operational, financial and compliance areas of the company for purposes of facilitating various audit projects

* Strong written and oral communication skills, inclusive of a proven track record in speaking to diverse groups/levels within the organization (including executive/senior level management, organization staff, and external auditors) and maintaining the ability to have effective working relationships.

* Must be highly principled and of the highest ethical standards.

* Sense of urgency to meet deadlines and commitments to stakeholders.

* Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage changing workload with competing priorities.

* Enthusiastic, self-motivated, works well under pressure, and willing to take ownership of assigned tasks.

* Strong work ethic with self-accountability for high-quality deliverables and achieving departmental goals.

Knowledge:

* Thorough knowledge and understanding of Company Financial and Operational processes, Risk assessment practices, Institute of Internal Audit Professional Standards, Business and Financial processes, Information systems processes, Compliance practices, and Audit software applications, (e.g., TeamMate).

* Strong understanding and experience with SOX-404 or the NAIC Model Audit Rule.

* Knowledge of data analytics and audit automation a plus.

Experience:

* 5 years of internal audit/public accounting experience.

* Supervisory experience and experience in healthcare or health insurance desired, but not required.

Education and Certifications:

* Bachelor's degree in accounting. Certification as an Internal Auditor or Public Accountant is desirable.

Location:

* This position is classified hybrid, which requires onsite work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Physical Demands:

* While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see.

* The employee must be able to work over 40 hours per week.

* The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
