SUMMARY:Little, Brown and Company is hiring a Senior Manager or Associate Director of Backlist & Brand Director (level determined based on experience) to lead the development of its backlist programs and support significant growth of the division's backlist sales revenues, with a particular focus on the group's franchise and brand authors. This is a highly collaborative role, reporting to the Publisher, and working closely with key stakeholders across the company, the sales department, and operational functions.The ideal candidate will be highly analytical and results oriented, with the ability to influence and bring people together to deliver results. We're looking for a true team player with a passion for the publishing industry; someone who enjoys developing new programs and workflows, and who is always striving for new insights and opportunities; someone who can develop, communicate, and execute a strategic roadmap to meet and exceed financial goals.This is a NYC based role. Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG's hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the marketing analytics team, develop market insights, category and trend analysis to inform backlist strategies
- Develop a deep, analytical understanding of LB's extensive backlist and leveraging those insights to create programs, workflows, and playbooks for driving backlist sales
- In collaboration with the marketing analytics team, develop KPIs and reporting to underpin new and existing backlist programs, and work diligently to deliver return on investment
- Collaborate with the inventory department and Sales to monitor and resolve inventory and stock issues and optimize operational efficiency
- Develop new, and improve existing, backlist marketing programs and establish a calendar of title promotions; develop insights around the efficacy of different marketing tactics
- Lead internal communication pertaining to backlist titles, programs, and opportunities. Leverage key company meetings to create consistency in backlist awareness. Communicate regularly with key stakeholders.
- Develop a detailed understanding of workflows and responsibilities relating to backlist and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
- Oversee the group's metadata optimization and collaborate closely with Managing Editorial and the Marketing Strategy department to ensure optimal metadata across all backlist titles
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Minimum 5 years of directly relevant experience, preferably in book publishing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to work with data, derive insights from data, and communicate analyses clearly and with a focus on action and outcome
- Proficiency in Excel and other data analytics tools
- Ability to work well in interdisciplinary teams and drive results in a collaborative environment
- Deep familiarity with online product discovery and metadata as well as the book retail landscape
- Highly organized, detail oriented, and motivated by results
