SUMMARY
The Senior Mine Engineer performs long and short term mine production planning and scheduling, development, and infrastructure design, mine ventilation design, ground control design, surveying, production quantity calculations and month end mine production reporting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
* Performs short-range mine planning including development design; drift & fill and long-hole stope design; backfill design; scheduling development, production, and backfill; surveying; reconciliation of the schedule and plan with actual; and coordination with long-range mine planning, geology, survey, and mine operations.
* Oversees projects, assists in budget preparation and cost estimations, and tracks costs.
* Works with mine services including power, ventilation, compressed air, and water; assists with design and implementation of ground control and related ground support engineering including various rock bolting methods and shotcrete; optimizes techniques for explosives utilization and storage; ensures technical deliverables are provided to customers within time and quality expectations.
* Plan, organize, and coordinate surveys, tests, or investigations. Collect data points, interpret results, and prepare recommendations. Present executive summaries and cost estimates to senior staff.
* Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria in making minor adaptations and modifications to established engineering plans or systems.
* Develop and maintain a detailed working knowledge of the mine's operational issues and apply sound engineering practices to resolve them.
* Provide engineering guidance.
* Develop practical long-term mine plans, budgets and schedules, including the following:
* Complete mine design options for accessing economic reserves.
* Identify and analyze resource growth opportunities.
* Review and evaluate practical and conceptual mine plans which allow for orderly development and exploitation of economically mineable ore reserves, resources, and inventory.
* Integrate geology, engineering and operations planning into a cohesive process.
* Track mining actuals and costs vs budget.
* Integrate long term infrastructure construction and maintenance projects into mine plan.
* Evaluate the benefits of available technology in optimizing conceptual plans.
* Conduct studies on projects and prepare reports that satisfy the established criteria for Scoping and Prefeasibility Studies.
* Provide technical support to operations in achieving the mine plan.
* Provide information and guidance as to potential areas of concern in regard to the
short-term plan.
* Assist junior engineers with ground control and plans, ventilation system management plans and maps, and drill and blast design.
* Perform mining, stockpile, and block model reconciliation.
* Assist with end of year reserve reporting.
* Provide support for underground dewater system design, power distribution design, and construction projects.
* Work independently and as a member of the team effectively.
* Follow and understand MSHA rules and regulations, environmental rules and regulations, SOP and work area instructions, participates in safety and environmental activities. Lead by example by adhering to rules and regulations and ensuring compliance to rules and regulations of Lucky Friday Operations.
* Comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations. Conducts activities and work in an environmentally responsible manner. Is aware of procedures to minimize impacts to the environment.
* Communicate with co-workers, management, outside contractors and vendors, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Direct the work of and mentor junior level engineers and interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in mine engineering or other relevant technical discipline.
* 8 years' experience in mining engineering.
* Prior experience in an underground, narrow vein hard rock mining environment preferred.
* Experience with mine planning software, including Deswik.
* Ventilation modeling software experience preferred.
* Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
