Gritt Robotics is developing advanced AI and robotics to automate the construction of renewable energy infrastructure. The team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and the founders are experts in robotics and AI from Stanford and Carnegie Mellon. We're looking for an experienced perception engineer with a strong computer vision background to join our team. As an early member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in building and shaping the perception capabilities of our robots. You will work on challenging vision problems around manipulation and navigation in outdoor environments. You'll need to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment where you'll wear multiple hats and have a direct impact on our product's evolution. Ideally, you have a proven track record of developing and deploying computer vision systems in production, and you're passionate about pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI. We will expect you to grow with the company over time and take on additional leadership roles.

Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy state-of-the-art vision models.
- Help drive our computer vision approach, with particular focus on detection, 6-DOF pose estimation and localization.
- Integrate and work with multiple sensing modalities (cameras, LIDAR, radar etc).
- Develop and improve data pipelines, training and validation infrastructure.
- Research and develop state-of-the-art models to improve perception under challenging and diverse scenarios (bright sunlight, shadows, reflections, occlusions etc.).
- Optimize training and inference times/memory footprint on GPUs.
- Integrate, test, and deploy production-ready solutions.
- Travel to US-based customer sites and provide field support, if required.
- Collaborate with other teams within the company in a fast-paced environment.
What we look for
- M.S/Ph.D degree in robotics, vision, computer science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering disciplines (or equivalent experience).
- 4+ years of hands-on experience developing perception solutions for robotic systems.
- Extensive experience in object detection, pose estimation, mapping and/or localization.
- Extensive experience in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, or other relevant areas of Artificial Intelligence (e.g., as evidenced by industry experience, publication record).
- Extensive experience with Python and common frameworks like PyTorch.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Should be comfortable taking ownership of tasks with light supervision.
- Must have excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills.
