POC is looking for Engineers and Technicians who are excited to design and build cutting edge optical and electro-optical products for the Medical, Industrial, and Defense industries. Founded in 1982 and headquartered out of Gardner, MA, with divisions in Portland, ME and El Paso, Tx, POC specializes in:

Optically based medical devices supporting revolutionary minimally invasive procedures, tests, and therapies.

Novel micro-optical components and high-precision micro-assemblies for industrial and defense applications.

Volume build-to-print and build-to-specification optics from the UV to Infrared for all market segments.

Please note: relocation is not available for this position. Candidate must be a US Person.

Requirements:

This position may be based in either the POCI Gardner, MA location or the Portland, ME location. This is not a remote position but some flexibility may be offered for occasional remote work.

Required:

  • Skilled in the use of solid modeling CAD tools ideally SolidWorks.
  • High level modeling skills to quickly formalize geometries in CAD.
  • Familiarity with design dimensioning and tolerancing methods and conventions (e.g. true-position dimensioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, etc.), ANSI and / or ISO drawing standards.
  • Understanding of mechanical fit tolerances, tolerance stack-ups, and an ability to perform worst-case and statistical tolerance analyses on mechanical assemblies.
  • Direct experience with a broad range of component fabrication and metrology methods
  • Familiar with the material and machining properties of conventional materials: steel, aluminum, plastic, glass, adhesives and potting compounds

Desired:

  • Finite Element Analysis, Thermal Analysis
  • CAD documentation of Electrical Components and PCBAs
  • Familiarity with mechanical part inspection methods and sampling schemes
  • Skilled in mechanical metrology and test tools including CMM's, ESS chambers, etc.
  • Knowledge of advanced materials: alloys, composites, ceramics, thermoplastics, epoxies, etc.
  • Knowledge of material treatments and coatings: Plating, painting, etching, etc.
  • Knowledge of advanced manufacturing methods: Additive manufacturing, EDM, rapid prototyping, casting and molding, laser cutting, laser welding, injection molding, soldering, etc.

Documentation Skills

Required:

  • Understanding of Configuration Management and Document Control Systems, e.g. in the context of MIL-STD-973, ISO 9001: 7.5.3, ISO 13485, etc.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change workflows in an Engineering Development and Production Release environment, understanding of approval roles: author (drawn by), check, quality, etc.

Desired:

  • Product Data Management (PDM) tool familiarity, ideally SolidWorks PDM / EPDM
  • Use of metadata and other methods to expedite and automate documentation in SolidWorks or Microsoft Office products

General Skills

  • Good verbal and written communication, clear, concise
  • Attention to details across all element of a technical document / drawing
  • Motivated and self-directed, this role will interact across all departments in order to complete tasks

Education

BS in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 5 years relevant experience.
