DesignScene is an international creative production agency with offices in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Singapore. We craft design-led events and experiential marketing campaigns for brands worldwide.

We are looking to strengthen our team with the addition of a Senior Production Manager/Technical Director based in New York to work across digital, hybrid, and physical events and activations.

You will have a minimum of 7 years' agency experience as a Senior Production Manager/Technical Director with at least 2 years in a similar role and enjoy rising to a challenge. Outstanding time management, organisational skills, and a passion for live experiences are essential.

Overview

Reporting into the Production Director and working alongside a team of producers, you will deliver the day-to-day production management of large-scale projects worldwide to an exceptional standard, maintaining the high production values of DesignScene. You will be a hands-on senior production manager/technical director with a proven ability to build collaborative relationships internally and externally with clients and suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have a natural and genuine passion for technical innovation, be experienced in delivering large-scale projects, and have excellent management and organisational skills. Practical skills in a technical production discipline are an advantage.

Requirements

What do you have to achieve?

  • Proactive production management and delivery of projects through the triple constraints of cost, time, and quality.
  • A very good understanding of the client products and business environment.
  • Build and develop good client relationships.
  • Smooth and efficient onsite project delivery from build to derig.
  • That all deadlines, both internal and client-led, are met.
  • Confident presentations to clients where appropriate.
  • Commercially successful projects - work closely with the project lead to feed in costs and manage the production aspect of the budget.

Job Activities – what do you have to do?

  • Lead the production planning process on your projects and support the team on their projects as required.
  • Manage the onsite production delivery, including client liaison.
  • Interrogate and assess production feasibility of client briefs.
  • Oversee the smooth and efficient running of the warehouse, ensuring all operational issues are resolved with speed.
  • Work with the producers to manage budgets by taking responsibility for the production costs.
  • Conduct detailed site surveys and onsite supplier briefings.
  • Contracting and management of suppliers, including cost negotiation.
  • Complete project wrap-up and reconciliation to deadline, including expenses.
  • Stay informed of industry news and champion new products and technology.
  • Produce detailed production schedules and other project documentation as required.
  • Manage the H&S process, collating 3rd party information and contracting H&S specialists as required.
  • Hold supplier debriefs to take forward any learnings.
  • Be responsible for project teams, providing mentoring and developing the skills of production managers and junior production managers.
  • Guide junior team members through internal processes.
  • Deal with stress points efficiently and effectively, flagging any critical issues to senior management.

What are the skills required?

  • Exceptional organisational and time-management skills.
  • Very good presentation skills and be able to present to senior clients confidently when appropriate.
  • Confident, clear communication and inter-personal skills.
  • In-depth understanding of creative, design, and production technology.
  • The ability to read and interpret technical plans and drawings.

What technical knowledge do you need?

  • Competent use of Apple OS, Google G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Apple Keynote.
  • Vectorworks or AutoCAD is an advantage.
  • Quick learning skills for our other platforms such as Slack, Airtable, PROCIM, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD layout and fabrication drawings.
