Job Summary:

The Department of Information Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Senior Programmer Analyst / Clinical Data Analyst. Reporting to the EMR Manager, the Senior Programmer Analyst/Clinical Data Analyst will collect and aggregate data from various providers and be responsible for the translation and interpretation of operational requirements to support the development of clinical, financial and statistical reports.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Facilitate design sessions, assist with the creation and execution of project plans, and contribute to remediation plans when requirements and/or timelines change.
  • Document workflows of existing practices, identify gaps, diagnose task/procedural change issues, and develop a plan to transition to future State workflow.
  • Design and develop clinical based templates.
  • Assist in mapping and configuring clinical documentation data values.
  • Monitor project deliverables and timelines to ensure that implementation dates are realized.
  • Identify test criteria, translate workflow strategies into training scripts, prepare and stage test data, and participate in system and integration testing.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation and presentations to the project team and to senior management.
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs.
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Evaluate training programs and use feedback to improve future classes.
  • Contribute to the build and maintenance of the training database.
  • Ensure that project and training documents are current and complete.
  • Contribute to project post mortems and create Lessons Learned reports.
  • Assist in the identification of resources needed.
  • Participate in end-user training and support.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Medical Informatics or other related discipline.
  • Experience with commercial EMR and clinical ancillary systems.
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare environment; including a minimum of 3 years in Clinical Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of major process redesign initiatives for healthcare delivery systems.
  • Knowledge of software and tools required to support assigned Clinical Applications.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, communication skills; and strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential information and maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Medical Informatics or other related discipline preferred.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday; 9:00AM to 5:00PM (Full-Time)

Salary Range:

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
