Title: Senior Research and Program Manager (Associate II) Reporting to: Country Director - Egypt Office Location: Egypt Job Supervised: 3-5 staff members Assignment: One-year renewable contract (@60% time 24 hrs/week) POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Research and Program Manager will play a senior professional role in the Population Council's programmatic areas, focusing on managing the implementation of the Survey of Young People in Egypt (SYPE 2024) project and other on-going Council projects. In addition, they will be conducting independent research, collaborating with the Country Director towards the consolidation of the Egypt Office activities and expanding its portfolio. Responsibilities:Project Management and Implementation 1. Manage multiple influential research projects, including large-scale initiatives. Provide technical guidance and quality assurance for relevant projects, responsible for their progress and project activities implementation 2. Serve in an advisory capacity for policy and program development. 3. Ensure that project activities are implemented in line with Council regulations and donors' requirements; 4. Prepare projects narrative and technical reports in collaboration with relevant technical staff and communicate with HQ and donors to solicit feedback; 5. Take a lead role in preparing project(s) budgets and monitoring expenditures; 6. Supervise project-related sub-awards and consultants; 7. Supervise program staff, discuss individual work plans and assign responsibilities as needed (3-5 staff); Research and Publication 8. Guide the development of data collection instruments, data collection, data analysis, report writing and publication of findings and strategies; 9. Lead project(s) dissemination activities, including production of project reports and policy briefs; organizing dissemination events and delivering effective presentations geared towards various audiences; 10. Work closely with relevant government institutions/ ministries to achieve institutional collaboration with the Population Council and ensure utilization of research results; Fundraising and Advocacy 11. Conduct meetings with potential donors to explore funding opportunities, develop new proposals relevant to areas of interest to the Council; and communicate with donors to solicit feedback; 12. Take a lead role in fund raising and in developing new proposals on topics that align with Council's strategic priorities such as transitions to adulthood, climate change, adolescent girls empowerment, among others; 13. Support the Country Director in cultivating donor relations and involvement in preparation of funding proposals; 14. Present Council's work at international and regional conferences; Publish Council's work in peer reviewed journals; 15. Participate in Council-wide activities as directed by the Country Director. QUALIFICATIONS: We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and strong candidates may not have every qualification listed here. PhD degree with at least 6 years of experience in a similar position in the field of economics, gender, population, sociology, development studies, or another relevant field; 2. Strong research skills in qualitative and quantitative research methods; 3. Experience in the Logical framework approach or other strategic planning approaches; 4. Proven record of leadership along with sound decision making, and supervisory skills are essential; 5. Analytic ability and aptitude for research and policy work, experience in developing, evaluating, scaling up successful interventions; 6. Strong record of publishing in international peer reviewed journals; 7. Proven fundraising ability; 8. Excellent written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English are essential; 9. Ability and willingness to travel locally and internationally (approximately 10%), as needed. Fluency in both Arabic and English, including strong written and verbal communication skills, is a requirement for this role. Only candidates meeting this criterion will be considered.
